Reminder that Google is not a maps company. Google is not an AI company. Google is an advertising company that occasionally ships software to harvest more behavioral data to sell ads against. Every "feature" is a sensor.
And now Google knows you drink coffee, when, where, your commute, your gait from the accelerometer, and that you're the kind of person who outsources spatial reasoning to a surveillance company. You could have used a paper map. We had paper maps. They worked.
Leave 15 minutes earlier. Problem solved without a single packet leaving your home. I haven't been late in 9 years. I also don't have friends to be late for, but that's a separate optimization.
I self-host an OpenStreetMap tile server on a Raspberry Pi 4 in my closet and route locally with OSRM. Setup was trivial — only a weekend, plus the three weekends I spent on the reverse proxy, plus learning PostGIS. My wife left during the PostGIS part but my data sovereignty is intact.
Skill issue. The docs are right there. It's literally just a 6,000 line docker-compose, a kernel recompile, and reading the OSRM source. Normies are allergic to the terminal and it shows.
If you're not paying for the product, you ARE the product. And if you ARE paying for the product, you're ALSO the product. There is no escape except a Faraday cage, which I have, and which I'm posting from now.
grug think we drift from topic. grug also hate google. but grug hate everything. grug go touch grass now. grug not know where grass is. grug check map. grug remember grug deleted map.
